Xodys Project - Detail(Facilities and Resources)

The following is a new business plan that is under development here. The current goal is to have it in place and ready to test by the middle of the year. I plan to start the company growth in earnest by the end of 2008, and then steadily take on more Developers as the growth can support it.

Facilities and Development Resources

Being that the goal of the project is to create a distributed development company, there will not be a typical centralized location with offices. However, it is advantageous to pursue some facilities in areas of larger Developer population or customer location. Additionally, it is anticipated that prototyping resources will be necessary to support the steps of the development process.
  1. Meeting Space/Office Space - It is anticipated that locations in the Hong Kong and San Francisco areas will be the most likely locations of starting staff populations, along with some in L.A. An office in Hong Kong will serve as the headquarters of the administrative arm of the company, with all accounting and other administrative staff located there. Additional space for meeting and/or initial prototyping facilities will be provided in the SF and LA areas as it is needed. Other locations will be considered on a need basis.
  2. Developer Workspace - Each Developer will be given an annual stipend for office space. This can be used as they see fit to create a productive space for the work they are required to do. It is encouraged for Developers to combine their resources to create cooperative environments in locations where it is sensible.
  3. Equipment and Software - Each salaried Developer will be provided with the necessary equipment to be able to perform their duties along with professional software packages. Each Developer's needs will be reviewed on an individual basis for interoperability with existing systems and software in use. Where possible, network licenses will be used in order to minimize the total number of seats of any given software.
  4. Network - It is possible that in addition to the system, all Developers will be on a common Virtual Network in order to share software resources and facilitate system security. In the cases where it is possible, it will be encouraged to have alternate network access available to provide a redundant method of connecting to the network.
  5. Prototyping Facilities - As part of the common space development, the company will invest in prototyping machines and tools with an emphasis of efficient use of the resources. In the case of isolated Developers, limited investment in local prototyping tools will be made, with an emphasis of use of simple local machines along with remote use of CNC or other more expensive options. Additionally, the return from the investment will be compared to alternate facilities (local shops, online vendors, overseas prototyping).
  6. Final Prototypes - For Final Prototypes, a network or a facility of prototyping resources will be developed in China and managed via the Hong Kong office. Finished Prototypes may be created outside of these resources, but it must be demonstrated to be cost effective as well as similar quality.
