Xodys Project - A New Way of Business

The following is a new business plan that is under development here. The current goal is to have it in place and ready to test by the middle of the year. I plan to start the company growth in earnest by the end of 2008, and then steadily take on more Developers as the growth can support it.

Summary

Create a corporate structure that is generally managed by the people doing the work and rewards those people for good performance. This structure will be based around a management system that tracks projects from beginning to end, and enables the new working methods.

The system flow:
  1. New concepts are created in the system.
  2. The development staff reviews the ideas and can offer to commit some of their time working on developing that concept.
  3. The owner of the concept can choose to accept the development offer or deny it.
    1. Development staff gain a profit share for voluntary work done on a concept.
  4. The concept is periodically reviewed by a designated group to decide one or more of the following:
    1. Continue development.
    2. Discontinue development (in the case that it has proven to not be workable within the allowed time or technology).
    3. Release the concept for licensing.
    4. Retain the concept for internal marketing, manufacturing, and sales. (This option will be done in conjunction with a sister company, so the project will still be handled in a similar fashion internally as it would be for externally licensed projects.)
  5. All concepts are held within the system for searching and reference, regardless of success.
  6. A concept released for licensing is put into a catalog of available concepts.
    1. All potential customer interactions are documented in this catalog.
    2. Sales people can provide feedback and request for further development on a concept.
  7. Licensing agreement preparation in connection with a concept.
  8. Tracking of internal division of income based on the deals created during concept development.
  9. Tracking of payment of royalties, profitability on a per concept and company basis, and future projections.

The goal is to create a distributed workplace governed by market rules that is cooperative. This will lead to greater employee satisfaction and long term productivity.

Salaried employees will be required to spend a set amount of time on humanitarian projects. This work will be used for products for both non-profit sales and normal sales. The profit from the normal sales will either be used to pay for development costs or to help offset the non-profit product costs, lowering the barrier for those items.

Hi Johnathan,

You dont know me. But I found you while I was looking through LinkedIN. I had a look at your website and I'm very impressed by your "new way of business" concept.

I've only recently started my business after working as an R&D engineers in the pro and consumer audio world. I'm hoping to evolve my company into an consumer audio business with a new way of working and have been thinking about how that could be acheived.

As a way of funding the "big idea" I'm also doing some consultancy and I wonder how your system could/would accept outside developers?
